The text is aimed to make an attempt to clarity the idea of educational standards. The authors define them as models of presupposed effects, expressed in a way which enables their evaluation. The main thesis of the article conveys the idea that modalities defining educational standards presented in theories of different directions and streams in pedagogy are derived from the premises each of these ideas are created by.
The paper also contains the review of educational standards in the systems of a) J. F. Herbert, b) J. Dewey pedagogical statments and c) in the streams of humanisctic pedagogy. According to S. Nieciunski and J. Kulczycki, the content of educational standards, and the way they are established in the countries of the European Union, require a wide-ranging discussion. The authors emphasize that this discussion should be based on common, pedagogical care of all participants to fulfill and amass in educational
process - personal, human, all-European and national values.
